SHC guest Jim Nonus explores pirate Jean Laffite’s time in Southeast Texas. Nonus will also discuss the creation of his newly debuted, "Laffite: The Musical" and share some songs composed. Center staff will offer a special viewing of items from its historic Jean Laffite Collection.

Juneteenth at the Sam Houston Center - Exhibit Program with Edward T. Cotham Jr., Author of Juneteenth: The Story Behind the Celebration. Commemorate the 160th anniversary of Juneteenth with the Humanities Texas exhibit Juneteenth from June 3 - July 1. Join us for the exhibit program on Saturday, June 14 at 1:00 p.m. when Edward T. Cotham Jr. will discuss his book, Juneteenth: The Story Behind the Celebration. The Center will also offer a special viewing of historic documents.
Join us on Saturday, May 31 at 9:00 am when the Center hosts well-known professional genealogist Teri E. Flack. Learn how to trace your ancestors and explore their lives through maps and land records. Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) staff will also share key map and land records available online and through TSLAC’s Austin and Liberty locations.
TSLAC hosts the Society of American Archivists (SAA) the two-day workshop, "Arrangement and Description: Fundamentals" for registered participants April 24 - 25, 2025.
