Helen Lunsford and Matt Martinez

Our Employees of the Quarter for the First Quarter of Fiscal Year 2002

Helen Lunsford - Helen began working for the Texas State Library and Archives Commission more than 15 years ago. During a recent shortage of full-time employees in the micrographics unit, Helen helped out by working three or four extra jobs in addition to her own. She was not required to take on these additional duties, but as a seasoned employee, she knew that the jobs needed to be done in order to continue providing the best service to customers. So she became editor, distribution coordinator, typist and microfilmer in addition to lead worker and darkroom technician. Helen's take-charge approach, dedication and conscientious effort has earned her the respect of her coworkers.

Matt Martinez - Matt is an invaluable member of the HR team. He has effectively taken on his new responsibilities as HR specialist, while continuing to fill in for his previous position. Matt enters changes into the payroll and insurance system. He understands the importance of this work and strives to enter the information correctly and in a timely manner. This attention to detail ensures staff will receive their paychecks on time and will have access to insurance benefits when needed. In addition to performing his normal duties, Matt's knowledge and patience have also made him an excellent resource in the training of the new HR assistant. Matt is courteous and responsive, and has earned the respect and appreciation of his peers.
