Bell Clarke and Tonia Wood

Our Employees of the Quarter for the First Quarter of Fiscal Year 2004

Bell Clarke - Bell Clarke is the statistics assistant in the Library Development division. Bell performs the complicated task of gathering and compiling statistics from Texas' public libraries, and always meticulously ensures the accuracy of the numbers. Further, staff who have the opportunity to work with Bell agree that she serves as a model of customer service. Bell is in constant contact with TSLAC's external clients, including librarians, library staff and local officials, assisting them in the completion of required reports and answering questions. Bell does this with diplomacy, tact, friendliness and a professionalism that does not go unnoticed. Bell also cheerily takes on extra duties to fill in where needed. In the past, she has helped staff get ready for meetings by preparing coffee and water, and has lent assistance with large mailouts by stuffing and labeling hundreds of envelopes. Whether Bell is completing her assigned projects, helping her division with special projects, or contributing time to agency-wide endeavors (such as the Safety Committee), Bell maintains a positive outlook and a team spirit. She has earned the respect of her peers and the appreciation of TSLAC's customers.

Tonia Wood - Tonia Wood works as appraisal archivist in the Archives and Information Services division. Though Tonia remains responsible for appraising records of several state agencies, including those of the Office of the Attorney General, the Texas Real Estate Commission, and the Texas Veterans Commission, Tonia is now primarily responsible for processing the gubernatorial records of George W. Bush. As the archivists prepare their assigned portions of the records for research, Tonia sees to the consistency of the work and the integration of each's contributions into one finding aid. Since their delivery to the Texas State Library, there has been a staggering number of information requests for the records, and Tonia has been consistent in meeting the strict deadlines for the release of information all while applying the provisions of the Texas Public Information Act and other relevant statutes. Tonia is regarded by her peers as an adaptable, perceptive, approachable and dedicated employee. She cheerfully lends assistance with various department and agency projects (including the recent 2003 State Employee Charitable Campaign) and has earned the respect and appreciation of staff and clients alike.
