Previous Employees of the Quarter
Texas State Library and Archives Commission Employees of the Quarter are nominated by their TSLAC colleagues and are selected by the TSLAC Employee Recognition Committee. Employees of the Quarter are presented with a Certificate of Merit and eight hours administrative leave at the TSLAC Quarterly Awards Ceremony.
Linda Buie and Sheila Fries
Our Employees of the Quarter for the Third Quarter of Fiscal Year 2008
Linda Buie - One of her colleagues suggested we present Linda Buie with the "Employee of the Quarter Century" because Linda has been providing consistently excellent customer service to Talking Book Program (TBP) patrons for over 30 years.
As a Reader Consultant, Linda responds to TBP patron requests for materials and information. Recently when the National Library Service national conference attendees were touring our building, one participant overheard Linda taking calls. That person was so impressed with Linda's abilities that she wanted to know what our training program was for TBP reader consultants.
According to TBP Director Ava Smith, Linda "has a wonderful rapport with the patrons and her co-workers and is able to interact effectively with both groups. She completes projects competently and often before deadlines and the quality of her work is exceptional."
Sheila Fries - Sheila Fries stepped into the newly created role of agency records coordinator in 2004, inheriting the daunting task of creating a model program for the agency that sets the records management standard for the entire state.
She accomplished just that by revamping our agency's records retention schedule, updating and streamlining the agency's records management practices and creating a much-needed manual on the subject for staff. Her efforts have resulted in the proper disposal of more than 2,500 cubic feet of records, achieving a cost savings of nearly $80,000 for the agency.
In addition to being generous with her time on work issues, Sheila is generous with her time and resources in providing delicious and creative cakes and other food items to celebrate events and birthdays.
Anyone who knows Sheila knows her long history with Texas ranching and rodeo. She is the only person we know who can plan and execute an elegant dinner party one day and ride the rodeo, repair a fence and herd a bunch of goats the next.
