Valicia Greenwood and Laura Saegert

Our Employees of the Quarter for the Third Quarter of Fiscal Year 2010

VALICIA GREENWOOD – Though she’s been with the agency for six months, Valicia Greenwood immediately impressed her bosses and peers in the Library Development Division with her positive, can-do attitude and eagerness to help in any way she can.

Characterized as a “real go-getter,” this administrative assistant is proactive and tackles issues even before you know you have them, one colleague stated. A customer service pro and able to troubleshoot any problem, Valicia has a ready willingness to learn and to contribute.

Need help finding more efficient, effective ways of achieving goals? Ask Valicia. Need some help with a technical skill or issue? Ask Valicia. Need a pleasant worker who is a great team player? Ask Valicia.

Valicia has provided exceptional support to libraries in the Loan Star Libraries program, tested software for LD programs and mastered the Moodle learning managemen system. Her work has improved the Small Libraries Management website; and regularly she guides multiple callers through their problems with the Loan Star Libraries Grant Management System.

“She has not only fulfilled her duties, she has done so at a superior level that has taken those processes to a new level,” one of her supervisors says.

Laura Saegert LAURA SAEGERT – First the assistant director then the director of the Archives and Information Services Division retired last summer, leaving the division adrift without a leader. Laura Saegert stepped in and took the helm of the Archives section of the division without missing a beat. Laura’s leadership and the mountains of extra work she performed earned her high praise and the Employee of the Quarter award for the Third Quarter of FY2010.

In addition to her duties as an Appraisal Archivist, Laura led the Herculean task to safely move the archival materials from the warehouse back to the stacks, efforts that required much planning, coordination and constant follow-up according to a colleague. She also became very involved with the last stages of the renovation as it affected the archives and archives staff. This is the second EOQ award for Laura but the first time she has received the award for doing the work of three.

Additionally, Laura took a leadership position in the Texas Historical Records Advisory Board (THRAB) meetings and issues, found time to apply for and receive a National Historical Publications and Records Commission grant, participated in the agency’s Strategic Planning process, attended Administrative Team meetings, coordinated with the State and Local Records Management Division on the approval of agency retention schedules and destruction of other agency records and established the TSLAC Flickr page.

During this time, her colleagues noted no change in Laura’s usual composure, sense of humor and her always helpful and patient attitude with staff and patrons alike.

Interim Assistant Director, Diana Houston, said that Laura demonstrated an amazing capacity to absorb whatever came her way whether examining a record to be sold on eBay to determine if it belongs to the State Archives or reviewing thousands of pages of documents for the presence of confidential information.

Laura’s leadership in the interim before the hiring of our new State Archivist kept the archival side of the division running smoothly and functioning well.
