Renee Pogue and Christina Manz
Our Employees of the Quarter for the Third Quarter of Fiscal Year 2012
Renee Pogue - As a purchaser in the Administrative Services Division, Renee wields agency monies in support of agency operations. And yet, as a person, her “currency” is the diligence and generosity with which she performs her duties to the betterment of TSLAC as a whole.
“Coordinating the purchasing of services and supplies for seven buildings and a staff separated by over 200 miles is a challenge,” wrote a colleague in Renee’s nomination letter, “but one that Renee has met with grace, tenacity and good humor.”
Renee’s exemplary performance was most evident recently in connection with her purchasing activities for the Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center. The Center in Liberty has experienced a period of revitalization these past two years, and Renee in Austin has proven an invaluable contributor to that renewal regardless of distance.
Consider this (partial) list of improvements to the Sam Houston Center – improvements made because of Renee: the Center’s roof has been repaired and water is no longer leaking into document storage areas; new computers and microfilm readers are being used by researchers; the doors, which once let in rain and the occasional snake, have now been re-aligned and sealed; the Jean and Price Daniel House is clean and sparkling from top to bottom.
The list is partial because Renee’s record of accomplishment is long and, thankfully, her work continues. “Renee’s work output is similar to that old commercial for the United States Marines,” wrote another colleague, “she accomplishes more by 9 a.m. than the rest of us do in a full day.”
TSLAC sincerely thanks Renee for her energetic service and proudly congratulates her for being named Employee of the Quarter for the Third Quarter of FY2012.
Christina Manz - The science of librarianship has to do with organizational principles, alphanumerical schemes, and technological tools and how they’re applied to collections. Whereas the science can be a tad cold and clinical, the spirit of librarianship is in the professionals, the people. Christina Manz is a case in point.
A Library Development Assistant in the Library Development and Networking Division, Christina radiates warmth, friendliness, and expertise – qualities that have contributed to the success of TSLAC’s library science collection, which is housed on the fourth floor of the Zavala building.
“From the first time I met her while browsing the library science collection,” wrote one colleague in Christina’s nomination letter, “[she] has never ceased to be exuberantly friendly and incredibly helpful. You can tell she has a real passion for what she’s doing up there, and that makes patrons want to utilize those resources even more so.”
Christina is the first point of contact for questions from constituents regarding the library science collection. She also performs outreach activities to promote the collection; she compiles information for her division’s Library Developments blog and email newsletters; and she regularly volunteers to help with TSLAC events.
“All of these [tasks] involve learning new skills,” wrote another colleague. “She is not afraid to take on anything and is helpful to all. These are the key features for agency staff for the future, and of an Employee of the Quarter staff member!”
