Sarah Norris and Shay Young
Our Employees of the Quarter for the 1st Quarter of Fiscal Year 2014
Sarah Norris is conservator in the Archives and Information Services Division, where she performs preventive care and repairs for library and archival materials, and oversees the agency’s conservation priorities. She’s been with the agency since 2009. Her colleagues describe her as a poised, committed, and highly knowledgeable professional who has contributed a great deal to the agency’s collections and archival activities.
“Sarah confronts the daunting volume and variety of materials she is tasked to treat with intelligent focus, while at the same time willingly contributing to other TSLAC activities with her friendly wit and good humor,” wrote one colleague in Sarah’s nomination letter.
In 2013 Sarah, who normally conserves books and paper documents, advanced her expertise by preparing for public display the suit of clothing worn by Governor John Connally on November 22, 1963. Her research and labor intensive hands-on preparation of the clothing culminated in the launch of the internationally publicized exhibit in October 2013.
“Sarah Norris is a jewel!” wrote another colleague. “We are lucky to have such a dedicated, competent specialist on our staff.”
Another noted: “I continue to be amazed by her scope of knowledge and sheer ability to do the things she does! She devotes the same level of attention and detail to each project. Add efficiency and cheerfulness to the equation and you have the perfect formula for an Employee of the Quarter.”
TSLAC sincerely thanks Sarah for her energetic service and proudly congratulates her for being named Employee of the Quarter for the First Quarter of FY2014.
Shay Young is a circulation clerk for the Talking Book Program at TSLAC’s Shoal Creek facility, where she helps manage the flow of library materials to and from TBP patrons across the state. She’s been with the agency since October 2009. Her colleagues describe her as a fast, efficient worker who sets the bar high in terms of discipline and productivity.
“Her supervisors cannot praise her enough,” wrote one colleague in Shay’s nomination letter. “She is very diligent in completing her assigned tasks, and she does her work with attention to detail and a high level of accuracy. She is also a self-starter who looks around for other tasks to take on when she has completed her own assignments. Shay is the only clerk to ever earn a ‘5’ on a performance evaluation, and I think that says it all.”
“Shay consistently exceeds the norm in completing her daily work, and she is undoubtedly the best ever at selecting audio materials,” wrote another colleague. “If there is an extra large audio materials select, I’m confident it will be completed if Shay is involved. She works effectively and congenially with the other staff members while approaching her job with a quiet discipline.”
Another noted how Shay’s “seemingly inhuman abilities, the blazing speed that she selects books, or her Swiss-like punctuality, is a testament to her warm spirit and good humor.”
TSLAC sincerely thanks Shay for her friendliness, dedication, self-motivation, and discipline, and proudly congratulates her for being named Employee of the Quarter for the First Quarter of FY2014.
