D W and Erica McCormick

Our Employees of the Quarter for the 1st Quarter of Fiscal Year 2015

D W - This is D’s second Employee of the Quarter award and not surprisingly. Well known throughout the agency, D masterfully handles her duties in Administrative Services, helps out other divisions whenever they need assistance with special projects and is involved in every agency-wide extracurricular activity whether it’s co-chairing the State Employee Charitable Campaign or single handedly leading our effort to provide a better holiday for several families through our Christmas families fundraiser.

D is ultra organized, speedy and ready to help anyone, anywhere at any time. For the Christmas Families 2014, D organized the committee and ran committee activities, even singlehandedly organizing and running the one-day bake sale. In addition to making a truckload of treats and crafts to sell, D was the main contact person with the charitable organization and spent time learning about the families and their needs and desires. She shopped, wrapped gifts and helped deliver the goods to the families. She meticulously matched all the gift receipts to go with each gift in case something was not the right color or size. She also organized the themed gift baskets and decorated boxes for each division’s “basket.”

Meanwhile, she did not skip a beat in performing her full plate of regular work tasks. Prompt, quick, thorough and accurate no matter what she is doing whether performing property inventory, providing information or handling purchasing duties, among her many tasks. And so, D, we thank you, congratulate you and salute you.

Erica McCormick - Around the state Erica is becoming something of a rock star in the library world because of her great job in helping libraries with all aspects of the extremely complicated grants to libraries program. The grant program gives libraries the opportunity to provide new and innovative services that would never get off the ground without this grant money.

Erica helps libraries through all aspects of the process from helping conceptualize programs, giving advice on writing effective grant proposals, and walking grantees through the reporting process. She is knowledgeable about all the state and federal grant guidelines as well as being organized, patient and a great communicator when it comes to dealing with the folks across the state. Erica also works effectively with the four committees that review the grant applications and in spite of the overwhelming amount of paperwork and the need to occasionally coax reluctant librarians into reporting on their grant projects, Erica always remains clam and enthusiastic.

She is also much admired for her ability to field questions about grants awarded and denied to our seven commissioners. On top of all these duties, she recently spearheaded researching and outlining requirements for a new, updated Grants Management System. While still in process, it’s a major effort that will have long term benefits for the agency and our grantees. Erica’s active involvement and leadership has been critical in moving the project forward. Congratulations, on earning this recognition as Employee of the Quarter, Erica!
