Our Employees of the Quarter for the 2nd Quarter of Fiscal Year 2017
Alana Inman, Manager, Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center, Liberty
You might think because the Sam Houston Center is out in the country that it would be a quiet, calm place. Not so for Alana who took over SHC management in January 2012 shortly after an internal audit of the Center made a mere 16 recommendations to implement. In addition to addressing those, Alana has had to oversee and address many things inside the Center, the Jean and Price Daniel House, the historic buildings, and the grounds including dead tree removal, asbestos removal, dealing with the aftermath of a burglary at the JPD House, correcting the grounds’ terrible drainage problems, feral hogs, and an occasional snake in the Center itself.
According to her boss, Alana has displayed skillful management abilities, tact, good judgment, and perseverance in addressing these issues as well as dealing with contractors, state purchasing regulations, and the SHC public many of whom make inquiries about Center business often while Alana is off the clock running errands around town. Alana has slowly but surely been transforming the Center into a place for researchers to visit and currently is overseeing a museum overhaul expected to be completed this fall in time to celebrate the Center’s 40th anniversary. She is admired by all for her dedication, courage when facing down wildlife or contractors, and her unwavering sense of humor in the face of all these challenges.
Daniel Shallue, Support Services Specialist, Administrative Services
In just a little over five years with the agency, Daniel Shallue has now distinguished himself for a second time in earning an Employee of the Quarter award, this time in a different division and with completely different job duties. His first in 2015 while he was a Library Assistant in ARIS, providing excellent customer service to the public. In February 2016, Daniel was promoted to his current behind the scenes position which involves daily mail delivery, receiving/delivering items, and facilities issues, all on a strict schedule.
Daniel learned quickly the “how to” of the job as well as the importance his work is to the overall operation of the agency. Daniel is also the agency’s Safety Officer and soon revived the then dormant agency safety program, reinstating Safety meetings, providing regular safety information to staff, and is working diligently to provide a more comprehensive Risk Management presence on Angelina. Donna Osborne, who oversees the division as Chief Operations and Fiscal Officers, said that Daniel understands the interconnection of his roles relating to facilities and safety management and makes safety for all TSLAC employees a priority. Daniel also understands the value of providing excellent service with a smile as all his work whether routine or helping with special projects is delivered with a cheerful and pleasant attitude.
