Kiowa & Comanche Agency
I.T. 5.8.1873.

Cyrus Beede.

My Dear friend.
While I am much obliged
for thy kind letter, I must say it made
me feel badly, of course not entirely on
my own account, nor on account
of the white people, but more on the ac-
count of the superstitions suspicious yet
confiding people with whom my lot is
cast. I am fully satisfied it would be a
sad thing for them, as it would be hard
to make them understand why it was
done. The Kiowas have conducted them-
selves as well as could be asked since they
were promised the release of their friends
conditioned
