Nacogdoches Texas
13th Aug 1838

Genl Rusk.

            Major Kaufman wrote
for you, and stated your move-
ment. Ere this you will have
received the Express of this morn-
ing and will be possessed of all
the news in my possession tou-
ching Indian matters, on what
Lewis Sanches told me. He says
the Indians are disposed to peace
but all the settlements are broken
up tho the Mush assured them of
peace. I advised their return
forthwith, but one ansswerd [sic]
me by saying "That every D____d
Indian should have his head
cut off." In this mood Mr
Nobbit came, and after reading
Maj Kaufmans [sic] letter, I was re-
