   Austin, TX    Sam Houston Center Announces April 30 Hull-Daisetta Rotary Building Grand Opening in Liberty   

Liberty, TX – The Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center, a component of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, has announced the grand opening of the newly restored Hull-Daisetta Rotary Building with a special event scheduled for 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sat., April 30.

   Austin, TX    Texas State Library and Archives Commission Announces New Commissioner Nancy Painter Paup, Reappointment of Iglesias and Chair Wong   

Austin, TX – The Office of the Governor has announced a new appointment to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC), effective immediately. Gov. Greg Abbott has appointed Commissioner Nancy Painter Paup, with a term to expire Sept. 28, 2027. Additionally, Gov. Abbott reappointed David Iglesias and Martha Wong, Ed.D. for terms set to expire on Sept. 28, 2027.

Austin, TX – Summer is the perfect time to dive in and start reading. It is even better when you get to compete for a prize. This year, the Talking Book Program (TBP) at the Texas State Library and Archives Commission has partnered with libraries across the country to revamp and inspire readers of all ages. Readers of all ages will dive into the ocean depths this summer as TBP presents “Oceans of Possibilities” during the summer reading program.

Austin, TX – The Texas Center for the Book (TCFB) recently welcomed Texan Kechi Mbah to discuss her distinction as 2021 National Student Poet of the Southwest. This conversation, as a part of the Texas Center for the Book’s #TXBookChat series with Center Coordinator Rebekah Manley, was filmed and is now available for literary enthusiasts, librarians and educators. This conversation offers an inside look into the budding poetry career of Mbah and her year of service offerings and goals for the literary community of Texas.

   Austin, TX    Recipients of the 2022 Texas State Library and Archives Commission Research Fellowship in Texas History Announced   

Austin, TX – The Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) and the Texas Library and Archives Foundation are pleased to announce the recipients of the 2022 TSLAC Research Fellowship in Texas History. The $2,000 fellowship is awarded to applicants with the best research proposals utilizing collections at the State Archives in Austin. Administered through the Texas State Historical Association (TSHA), the awards are presented each year at the TSHA annual meeting.

   Austin, TX    Texas State Library and Archives Commission Digitizes and Makes Available Nearly 80,000 Department of Transportation Records   

Austin, TX – The State Archives, part of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, has announced the digitization of 79,608 Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Right of Way records dating from 1913 to 2017. These records are now available in the Texas Digital Archive, where they can be searched, browsed, viewed, and downloaded by members of the public at no charge.

   Austin, TX    Texas State Library and Archives Commission Announces $750,000 in Community Advancement Grants for Texas Libraries   

Austin, TX – The Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) this week announced that it will soon begin accepting grant applications for the Community Advancement Packages (CAP) Grant Program, designed to help libraries serving populations of 60,000 or less respond directly to identified community needs in 2022.
