Job Responsibilities

Performs complex (journey-level) network work. The Network Administrator is responsible for the administration and support of the agency's Local Area Network (LAN) devices, internal infrastructure, and all aspects of network communications. Ensures the reliable operation of the agency’s internal network, and takes the lead on agency communications regarding the consolidated State Data Center (SDC), the Internet, and the agency's IT-related business partners. Will also analyze and monitor network performance, research and plan for hardware replacement and software upgrades, assist in administering all agency-owned server-level tasks, including but not limited to, user accounts, access control lists, GPO, file and print services in the active directory domain and for authorized users of remote access. Coordinates technical projects, and works closely with the Systems Administrator and the Desktop Support team. Works under  general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Essential Functions

Responsible for the technical support of the agency local and wide area networks
Function as the backup to, and a resource for, the Systems Administrator
Provide technical expertise and guidance to the desktop support staff
Serves as backup for Data Center Services (DCS) Coordinator to ensure the agency's resources at the consolidated state data centers are properly maintained and supported, and new services are properly implemented.
Attends work regularly in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.
Complies with all applicable agency policies and procedures, including safety and standards of conduct.
Performs other work as assigned.

Non-essential Functions

Serves as mentor to internal staff interested in increasing their networking skills

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or GED
Two years of college-level course work concentrated on computer technology, local area networks, wide area networks, telecommunications, and/or computer connectivity.  (Two years technology related experience may be substituted for each year of college)
Two years of experience supporting Windows servers
Two years of experience supporting a local area network and related telecommunications
Two years of experience working in a position which requires effective communication with technical and non-technical internal and external customers
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, coordinators, co-workers, other agency staff
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Ability to work in a team environment
Ability to plan and arrange own work in order to meet deadlines
Ability to process multiple assignments simultaneously

Preferred Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree including 12 semester hours of information technology-related coursework
Experience performing project management related tasks in support of information technology projects
Experience supporting Windows servers in an organization with 100 or more employees
Experience supporting end-users using Microsoft Office Products
Experience implementing and configuring network monitoring tools
Current Cisco CCT or CCNA certification

Other Requirements

Certificates of completion are required for all education used to meet minimum requirements.
Applicants must be available to work a normal 8hour work schedule, Monday through Friday, with occasional late night and weekend assignments.


No supervision of other personnel, but does provide guidance and assistance to the desktop support staff. Reports to Network Operations Manager.
