Applicant must submit an additional supplemental data sheet from the Texas State Library in order to be considered for the position.


Performs moderately complex archival work. Work involves arranging and describing records and manuscripts; preparing finding aids to facilitate access to records; preparing archival materials for digitization; and assisting those conducting research and making specific records, documents, and information available or locating other reference materials. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.


Arranges and describes predominately government records series and occasionally manuscripts and photograph collections
Prepares finding aids coded in XML
Conducts initial reviews and appraises government records and manuscript collections as necessary
Researches state agencies histories, biographical information and provenance of records
Prepares and presents reports formally or informally, in person or in writing
Does collection assessments or prepares archival materials for digitization
Attends work regularly and in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies
Complies with all applicable agency policies and procedures, including safety and standards of conduct


Provide reference and research services to archives users in person, by phone, or mail.
Assist with the relocation of collections.

Masters degree from an accredited school with a major in History, Government, Library Science or related discipline, and coursework in archival administration
Six months work or classroom experience in the arrangement and description of archives and manuscripts

Ability to collect, organize, research, and interpret information from various sources and to compose descriptive narratives that are clear, concise, and grammatically correct
Ability to work semi-independently and to exercise professional judgment
Work/school experience using word processing applications for PC or Macintosh


One year experience in the arrangement and description of archives and manuscripts
Work experience or classroom work using DACS, EAD, XML and MARC
Work experience or classroom work with the digitization of archives and manuscripts
Work experience conducting research in archives or assisting others
Knowledge of Texas history and government
Knowledge of the Texas Public Information Act
Experience with database management applications
Certified archivist designation


Submission of college transcripts (undergraduate and graduate)
Submission of a finding aid.  Finding aid must be the sole work of the applicant to be given full weight
Criminal history check will be required of successful applicant
Ability to lift and carry boxes weighing 50 pounds


Reports to Assistant Director for State Archives, Archives and Information Services Division.
Has no supervisory responsibilities.
