Applicant must submit an additional supplemental data sheet from the Texas State Library in order to be considered for the position.


This position is funded by a Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP)- Public Computer Center (PCC) federal stimulus grant received by the Texas State Library. This is a full-time, temporary position for up to eleven months.

The BTOP/PCC Technology Training Specialist will develop, coordinate and deliver engaging technology training classes for public library patrons in local libraries across the state.  The Technology Training Specialist will utilize a mobile computer lab and will be responsible for equipment transportation, set-up and break-down, in addition to the implementation of training classes on site.  This position will work closely with the BTOP/PCC Grant Coordinator and another trainer working on the project to ensure success.



Schedule and provide administrative coordination of technology training classes
Provide technology training to end-users in local libraries
Transport and maintain mobile computer lab
Assist in formulating policies and procedures for BTOP technology training program
Provide administrative support to the program as needed
Related duties as assigned


Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Work experience related to technology training and/or teaching adult learners
Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, or similar software programs
Knowledge of training procedures and techniques; of education principles, practices, and techniques

Ability to troubleshoot and maintain laptop hardware and software
Ability to speak and write well organized and grammatically correct English
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Demonstrated ability to make professional public presentations
Ability to work well as part of a team


Experience working with public libraries or public computer centers
Experience troubleshooting and maintaining computer hardware and software
Experience formulating learning objectives and assessing the effectiveness of training
Knowledge of accessibility technology
Ability to speak Spanish fluently and to deliver training classes and/or teach in Spanish

Must have valid Texas Driver’s License
Must be flexible
Frequent travel by airplane and automobile required (83% of time); some evening work
Must be able to transport a 160 lb. wheeled computer lab case
Interviewees will be required to make a 15-minute presentation on an assigned topic.  The presentation will be instructional rather than informational.


Reports to Division Director; Team Leader BTOP/PCC Grant Coordinator; No supervisory responsibility.
