SUMMARY:

The Manager of Continuing Education and Consulting is responsible for the planning, administration, and evaluation of the continuing education and consulting programs and staff within the Library Development/Networking (LDN) Division. This includes oversight for statewide projects such as agency participation in the national Summer Reading program collaborative, and the development of the Library Science collection. Participates actively in division-wide planning

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Plan, coordinate and manage a statewide consulting program to assist libraries within the overall LDN plan.
Provide consulting and continuing education in areas related to position.
Plan, coordinate and manage a statewide continuing education program within the overall LDN plan that includes online, as well as in-person elements.
Oversee the management of the Library Science Collection, the reading program collaborative, Library Development blog, publications, and other special projects.
Monitor budget for these programs Represent the agency and division on statewide committees in areas related to position.
Assist Division Director with long-range planning and strategic direction for the division.
Attends work regularly in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.
Complies with all applicable agency policies and procedures, including safety and standards of conduct.
Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree in library or information science from an American Library Association accredited program.
Five years professional library experience.
Demonstrated experience in managing and evaluating programs.
Experience supervising professional librarians.
Work experience in designing training programs, planning meetings, production of training materials, and presentation of workshops.
Work experience using microcomputers
Work experience using social media tools

Ability to write analytical reports and long range plans
Ability to analyze data, formulate conclusions, develop policies and guidelines, and design and conduct program evaluations.
Ability to consult with individuals and groups.
Ability to speak before groups and testify at public hearings.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Work experience in multiple types of libraries, such as public libraries, academic libraries, state libraries, or cooperative library systems or networks.
Work experience or formal education in consulting, continuing or adult education, long range planning, library management, library technology, literacy, library services to special populations, systems analysis, budgeting, public/business administration, statistics, networking, or multi-type cooperation.
Work experience with program evaluation, including outcome based evaluation.
Experience with online learning and technologies such as (, learning management systems and web conferencing tools.
Experience leading and/or working with cross-functional committees.
Experience writing long-range plans and program reports
Experience with content management systems such as Drupal or Wordpress
Experience working with email management programs and/or other tools for online marketing

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Submit complete college transcripts (undergraduate and graduate).
Submit portfolio of writing samples (print or online sources) and sample training materials.
Applicants selected for interview will be required to make a 15-minute presentation on an assigned topic.  Travel by airplane and auto required.

SUPERVISION:

Supervises staff of three consultants and an assistant. 
Reports to Division Director.
