SUMMARY
Performs routine building maintenance work.  Work involves maintaining and repairing buildings, utility systems, and stationary equipment and operating motorized equipment, custodial work, and grounds keeping duties.  Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

ESSENTIAL TASKS
Performs general maintenance and repair work on historic and modern buildings.
Performs custodial duties.
Performs limited preventative maintenance and repair of machinery, equipment, tools, and utility systems.
Performs grounds keeping duties.
Operates and maintains motorized vehicles and equipment.
Performs administrative functions associated with assigned tasks.
Attends work regularly in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.
Complies with all applicable agency policies and procedures, including safety and standards of conduct.

NON-ESSENTIAL TASKS
Assists with set-up for special events.
Assists with disposition of records boxes, furniture, and other large items as needed.
Performs related work as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduate/GED.
Valid driver’s license.
Knowledge of the construction, repair, maintenance, and operation of buildings, equipment, and utility systems.
Ability to perform grounds keeping duties, including use of various types of lawn equipment.
Ability to perform custodial duties, including use of various types of cleaning equipment.
Ability to understand and follow instructions, policies, and procedures.
Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers.
Ability to work semi-independently.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with building construction, repair, and/or maintenance.
Experience and skill in the use and/or maintenance of various tools and equipment, including hand tools, stationary, and motorized equipment.
Experience with custodial work.
Experience with grounds keeping duties.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS & INFORMATION
Must work Saturdays, except for the second Saturday of the month, and occasional extra hours.
Criminal history check will be required upon contingent job offer.
Ability and physical strength to lift 50-pound boxes while climbing library ladders in order to shelve holdings.  
Must be able to carry 50-pound boxes, transport a minimum of 300 pounds of material on two-wheel dolly, and climb extension ladder to a height of 20 feet.
Work Hours: 30 hours per week.

SUPERVISION
No supervision duties.
Reports to the Manager of the Sam Houston Center.
