Performs routine (journey-level) clerical work in support of the circulation and machine operations of the Talking Book Program.  Work involves circulation of books/magazines and playback equipment used by those who cannot read standard print; use of computerized circulation system and barcode scanners; and assistance with daily mail handling.  Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Circulation and Machine Services operates within a warehouse environment.


Circulate specially formatted books/magazines or playback equipment/accessories.
Perform collections maintenance functions.
Participate in the daily mail handling.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Attend work regularly in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.
Comply with all applicable agency policies and procedures, including safety and standards of conduct.


High School Diploma or GED.
Visual acuity and manual dexterity.
Knowledge of inventory or library control systems.
Experience (work, school and/or volunteer) using personal computer.
Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others.
Ability to learn and effectively apply a variety of oral and written procedures.
Ability to learn and properly use a hand-held remote computer scanner.
Ability to properly lift up to 40 lbs. and move heavily loaded mail cages.
Ability to shelve materials to a height of seven feet.
Ability to handle large volume of work and meet deadlines.


Work experience in a library, bookstore or shipping and receiving operation.
Experience using a computer for inventory control.


Interviewing applicants will be required, at time of interview, to perform a certain physical task to demonstrate ability to handle mail and equipment.
Interviewing applicants will be required, at time of interview, to select a standard quota of books.
Pants and shoes appropriate for a warehouse environment should be worn to interview.


No supervisory responsibilities.
Works under the daily supervision of the Circulation Team Leader.  Reports to the Operations Supervisor.
