A Black History Month Taxonomy: Programming in Public Libraries
Black History Month (BHM) is a national commemoration of historical and current contributions of African Americans, and today, virtually every public library across the U.S. conducts some programming during Black History Month. In this session, attendees will learn about the groundbreaking Black History Month (BHM) public library program taxonomy and will explore what libraries are (and aren’t) doing to support BHM, strategies for libraries to improve or increase library offerings, and will include resources to support BHM programming.

We offer you resources that allow you to fall in love with a new generation of books by primarily living and working authors; we promote new songs that are free to use for StoryTime, and checked to avoid problematic historical associations; and offer weekly blogs sharing diverse perspectives with authors, StoryTime presenters, and more.
