Does Your Library Post To Twitter? Secure Your Account Now

Due to its current volatile status as a company, Twitter may be experiencing security threats, and its users are at risk of being cloned or hacked. As a library that posts to Twitter, here are some steps you can take:

  1. Change your password and make it very strong, i.e. something long and random that has nothing to do with the library. You can also use two-step verification.
  2. Reduce the number of people who have access to your Twitter account.
  3. Export your library’s whole Twitter so you have a backup.
  4. Set up alerts and keep an eye on the conversation to make sure no one is making fake library accounts in your name.

These steps were shared by Angela Hursh from The Library Marketing Show, Episode 167.

In the next episode coming later this week, Hursh will discuss questions a library might explore if it is considering leaving Twitter.
