Public Libraries: Make sure your community is on the state’s broadband plan radar!

Public libraries across Texas can make a big impact on a statewide effort by the Texas Broadband Development Office (BDO) to bring crucial funds and services to their communities. The BDO is gathering input to write the Texas Digital Opportunity Plan, which will serve as a roadmap for expanding the availability of reliable and affordable broadband, device access, and digital skills training for all Texans. This is an essential opportunity for public libraries to share their needs and input with state planners.

Two important surveys are out now. Responses are due by June 16. [Update: deadline has been extended so please continue sharing with your communities.]

Please consider these two actions to help ensure your community’s needs are heard.

  1. Promote the patron survey.

The BDO needs public input to create the best possible plan, so they are encouraging the public to fill out a special survey.  Please distribute the survey to your patrons. Click on Public Survey to find the survey. You can make information available to your patrons by posting information and links, as you are able. You can also share with area partners.

For promotional ideas and resources, click on BDO TOOLKIT.

Find attached a one pager with QR Code that you can print/share with area partners. It is also included in the toolkit.

  1. Fill out the library survey for your organization.

In addition to hearing from the public, the BDO also wants to hear from libraries themselves. Please fill out the Organization Survey to help inform the development of the statewide plan.
