Presidential AI Challenge Inspires Innovation for America’s Future

The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) is supporting the launch of the Presidential AI Challenge, a national initiative encouraging K-12 students and educators to harness the power of artificial intelligence to address local community challenges. This effort invites participants from all backgrounds to develop innovative AI-based projects while building skills and confidence in responsible AI use. As we celebrate 250 years of independence and look to the next 250, the challenge fosters creativity, problem-solving, and civic engagement.

Student teams will design projects that apply AI methods or tools to real-world issues, while educators explore fresh approaches for teaching and integrating AI in the classroom. Early training in AI will help demystify the technology, preparing America’s youth to succeed in an AI-assisted workforce and contribute to scientific and economic progress.
