New Volunteers Sought for State Library’s Continuing Education Advisory Committee

2014 March 21

raised hands volunteering imageThe Texas State Library & Archives Commission is seeking 9 new library staff members to join the Continuing Education Advisory Committee, managed by the Library Development and Networking Division.  New members are being sought to take the place of dedicated library staff that have completed their consecutive terms.

The 13-member Committee helps the State Library address the broader continuing education needs of libraries around Texas.  In order to have a committee that is diverse in geography and library type, we are seeking volunteers to serve a two-year term, with an option to extend for an additional term. Library staff volunteers are needed for the following areas and numbers of people:

3 – community college library

2 – large public or private academic institution

1 – medium public or private academic institution

2 – large public library

1 – small public library

The Committee Charge is as follows. The Continuing Education Advisory Committee represents diverse types of libraries and all areas of the state, and plays an active role in helping to shape library staff development and outreach by:

  • Providing input about both library staff and end user needs in Texas
  • Participating in the development of the annual CE plan that includes recommendations for staff development programs and topics and/or identification of competencies
  • Representing the point of view of the constituency each member represents
  • Acting as a communication link between the Library Development & Networking Division staff and the Texas library community
  • Providing annual feedback via a liaison to the TexShare Advisory Board on instruction and outreach for the TexShare programs, specifically.

Committee members should be prepared to meet online or via teleconference at least two times each year.  There is also one in-person meeting each year here at the State Library, and travel/lodging is at the volunteer’s expense.  We realize that some members may not always be able to make the trip to Austin, so we will also offer members opportunities to provide input in other ways when necessary.

If you are interested in volunteering for the Committee, please respond privately to Thea Blair at tblair@tsl.texas.gov.  Indicate your interest, your library and position, and give a brief overview of your qualifications.
