Let the Texas State Library Provide Training for Your Next Staff Day

2016 January 11

A few weeks ago Russlene Waukechon and I had the privilege of contributing to the Sachse Public Library‘s first annual Staff Development Day. We had a great time getting to know Sachse’s awesome staff!

Sachse staff

Mignon Morse, the director at Sachse, contacted us to help provide the Staff Day because half of her staff was new to libraries. We worked closely with her in determining what content would be the most useful for her staff. Here’s what we covered:

  • Customer service basics (as requested by the city),
  • Library core values, including access to information and right to privacy,
  • Reference services, and
  • TexShare databases, specifically HeritageQuest, LearningExpress, Adam Matthew’s American West, Explora, and Small Engine Repair.

We worked through several interactive exercises on each topic.

Comments were very positive, including:

Understanding more about the resources available in TexShare will really help us connect patrons to the right resources. The educational opportunities in LearningExpress alone really does have the potential to change the lives of our patrons.

Thanks for Fridays meeting I learned a lot of new exciting things that I can use as daily tools that will help me better serve our patrons.  Many of the tools on Texshare can be utilize as life changers for our patrons which they can use from day to day.
