Digital Literacy Toolkit: One-on-One Training Available

2017 January 5
by Jennifer Peters

As part of the Texas Workforce Commission-funded Libraries & Literacy project, the Texas State Library will distribute free digital literacy toolkits at regional day-long workshops this spring.

We are also offering a limited number of one-on-one trainings on use of the toolkit at your local library.  If you’re interested having in a trainer visit your library to walk you through use of the toolkit, contact Jennifer Peters at or 512-463-2214. These one-on-one sessions are available now through May 31, but the schedule is subject to the trainer’s availability this spring.

Because availability for the one-on-one sessions is limited, we recommend that you attend a workshop. The workshop will provide more than just instruction in using the toolkit; you will learn about resources that provide best practices for patrons needing adult literacy services, and effective partnership development with local adult education and literacy providers.

Here is the workshop schedule:

Region Library Host Date
San Antonio San Antonio Public Library Jan 12
Richmond (Houston) Fort Bend County Public Library Jan 27
Corpus Christi Corpus Christi Public Library Feb 27
Rio Grande Valley McAllen Public Library March 1
Waco Waco Public Library March 7
Amarillo Harington Library Consortium March 30
El Paso El Paso Public Library April 7
San Angelo Tom Green County Public Library May 5
Melissa (Metroplex) Melissa Public Library May 18
East TX Panola College Library, Carthage May 31

Registration is open to library staff and adult literacy providers. You can register for the workshops here.

Don’t forget the Libraries and Literacy grant program! We still have plenty of funds available for the purchase of equipment to enhance adult literacy services. Applications are being accepted now, first-come, first-served, through February 24.
