In mid-December 2017, The Texas State Library & Archives Commission began accepting applications for the FY18 Family Place Libraries grant opportunity. We had many exceptional applicants demonstrate a community need for expansion of services to young children ages 0-3 years. After considering each application carefully, we are pleased to announce that the FY18 Family Place Library grant recipients have been chosen! Please help us welcome the following libraries to the Texas Family Place network:

Allen Public Library    Allen, TX
Bay City Public Library    Bay City, TX
Harlingen Public Library    Harlingen, TX
Joe Barnhart Bee County Library   Beeville, TX
Mayor Joe V Sanchez Public Library  Weslaco, TX
Melissa Public Library    Melissa, TX
Rita & Truett Smith Public Library  Wylie, TX
Singletary Memorial Library   Rusk, TX
Van Zandt County Library   Canton, TX
Wells Branch Community Library  Austin, TX

These libraries will be joining a growing national network of libraries implementing the Family Place model in their communities. Each of these libraries will be sending two staff members to training this spring in Centereach, New York where they will learn how to transform their libraries into community centers committed to early literacy and learning, parent education and engagement, family support, and community connectivity to ensure children enter school ready and able to learn.

We hope to evolve the program in FY19 as we continue to support established Family Place libraries. While we will continue to offer the opportunity for Texas libraries to become Family Place locations, we also hope to expand the program to include re-training for established Family Place locations that have lost trained staff. We also wish to support requests for expansion of the program to include additional branches in multi-branch library systems. Stay tuned for more details about the changes coming to the Texas Family Place network!
