TLA Partners with HEB for June Checkstand Donation Campaign<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

June 2024<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Texas Library Association (TLA) is excited to announce that HEB selected TLA as the beneficiary of the June checkstand donation campaign. Beginning June 5, customers at any HEB store can give when they check out. Proceeds from the campaign will support summer reading programs and initiatives at Texas libraries. The impact of this partnership will make a tremendous difference in the services libraries can provide to their communities during the summer months. TXLA Disaster Relief Fund <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

June 14, 2024<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Texas Library Association awards grants from organization\u2019s Disaster Relief Fund to libraries impacted by natural disasters. Grants range from $1,500 to $5,000 and can be used for technology, facility repair, collections, furnishings, or other needs related to storm damage. Academic, public, school and special libraries are eligible to receive assistance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to the significant impact of recent storms in the Houston  area, TLA has opened application for the Disaster Relief Fund.  Libraries in the Houston area that have been damaged are encouraged to apply.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

How to Make Stone Soup<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Rural library training for creating a literacy program without any ingredients<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

June 17, 2024 | 10:00 a.m. Central<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heidi Frazier, Library and Community Services Manager, with the Harrie P. Woodson Memorial Library in rural Caldwell, Texas will share how the staff built a model focused on community collaboration for developing new programming, including General Educational Diploma (GED) and English as a Secnd Lanaguage (ESL) education, digital literacy classes, and citizenship tutoring – with no allocated funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This session will help attendees to identify and leverage hidden resources available within their communities to implement innovative, collaborative, and cost-effective programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jerry Kline Community Impact Prize<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Jerry Kline Community Impact Prize, developed in partnership between the Gerald M. Kline Family Foundation and Library Journal<\/em>, was created in 2019 to recognize the public library as a vital community asset. When libraries, civic entities, organizations, and the people they serve become close partners, their communities thrive. One winning library will receive $250,000 in unfettered grant monies from the Gerald M. Kline Family Foundation. The winning library will also be profiled in the November issue of Library Journal<\/em> and online. Honorable mentions may also be named. LCRA Community Grants<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) awards up to $50,000 for capital improvement projects that benefit an entire community. Grant projects must improve the value of a capital asset by building, renovating or purchasing equipment. Volunteer fire departments, emergency responders, cities and counties, schools, libraries, civic groups, museums and other tax-exempt nonprofit organizations with projects located within LCRA\u2019s wholesale electric or water service area, or areas in which LCRA Transmission Services Corporation provides transmission services are eligible to apply.
