These specifications were not created by the Z Texas project. They were written by Christine Peterson, Manager, Continuing Education and Consulting, Texas State Library and Archives Commission, specifically for those Texas librarians who will be bidding these services before this committee can create more substantial specifications. General Z39.50 Capability

The system shall provide both a Z39.50 client and a Z39.50 server.

The Z39.50 client and server shall be Version 3 compliant.

Z39.50 Client

The Z39.50 client shall use the same interface as used in the web-based ILS.

The Z39.50 client shall have the ability to download a USMARC bibliographic record in the correct USMARC format.

The Z39.50 client shall have the ability to upload a retrieve USMARC bibliographic record to the ILS.

The Z39.50 client shall have the ability to search multiple Z39.50 servers simultaneously.

The Z39.50 client shall be able to deduplicate results based on specific criteria (e.g., ISBN, LCCN, SuDOC).

The Z39.50 client shall be capable of receiving and displaying USMARC bibliographic records.

The Z39.50 client shall be capable of receiving and displaying GRS records.

Z39.50 Server

The Z39.50 server shall support the Bib-1 Attribute Set in its entirety.

The Z39.50 server shall provide the ability to configure error messages for local use.

The Z39.50 server shall support the ATS-1 Profile in its entirety.

The ILS shall provide the ability to create indexes based on library-defined USMARC fields and subfields.

The ILS shall provide the ability to create any index desired based on the USMARC record.
