TexasLawHelp.org 2.0 – New Design and New Features to Assist Library Patrons

October 10, 2012 -- 10am to 11am Central Time

The popular legal website TexasLawHelp.org is a free resource for Texans who need assistance with civil legal issues. Visited by more than 320,000 in 2011, the website provides legal resources such as civil legal forms, information on where to file court documents, and Live Chat, a popular service that connects website visitors to a lawyer, Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm.

The new TexasLawHelp.org will go live in early September 2012, and Colton Lawrence, website coordinator from Texas Legal Services Center (TLSC), which manages the site, will provide an overview of the new website format. Paula Pierce, manager attorney at TLSC, will address the fine line between providing legal information versus legal advice. Elliott Fontenette, staff attorney, will provide an overview of the Live Chat feature and how your patrons can find the resources they need.

What's a Webinar?

Short for Web-based seminar, a webinar is a presentation, lecture, workshop or seminar that is transmitted over the Web. A key feature of a Webinar is its interactive elements -- the ability to give, receive and discuss information. Contrast with Webcast, in which the data transmission is one way and does not allow interaction between the presenter and the audience. Source: Webopedia.

CE Credit:

This Webinar qualifies for 1 hour of Texas State Library Continuing Education credit. However, printed Certificates of Completion will not be issued. Instead, a follow-up email will be sent 2-3 business days after the event to individuals who logged in and attended the live Webinar. Attendees are advised to save and/or print the follow-up email as it will serve as proof of attendance for CE purposes. CE credit is now available for group viewings of live Webinar events -- please follow the Group Webinar Viewing procedure listed in our Frequently Asked Questions.
