Sam Houston Center to Briefly Close for Renovations
Monday, April 20, 2015 • Liberty, TX • News Release
Electrical repairs originally slated at the Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center for April 21-22 have been rescheduled for May 5-6, 2015. As a result, the Center will be closed both May 5th and 6th as staff continue to work to address critical safety and security needs within the Center’s buildings and grounds.
The repairs to reduce the risk of fire hazards were recommended by the State Office of Risk Management and are being funded by a special $1 million appropriation awarded by the 83rd Texas Legislature. The allotted funds have also supported a number of other critical repairs to the Sam Houston Center, including the installation of a new fire suppression and detection system, removal of asbestos, and the addition of exterior safety lighting on the grounds.
The Center serves as the official regional historical resource depository for the ten Southeast Texas counties of Chambers, Hardin, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Newton, Orange, Polk, San Jacinto and Tyler. In addition to providing access to historic records and artifacts through its archives and museum, the complex includes four historic buildings and the Jean and Price Daniel Home and Archives.
The Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center is part of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. The Center is located at 650 FM 1011 in Liberty, TX. For more information, please call (936) 336-8821 or visit www.tsl.texas.gov/shc/.
