Texas State Library and Archives Commission Announces Mini-Grant Program for Texas Libraries

Tuesday, December 13, 2016 • Austin, Texas • News Release

The Texas State Library and Archives Commission, through a grant from the Texas Workforce Commission, (TSLAC) is working to enhance partnerships between local libraries and adult education and literacy (AEL) providers. As part of this project, TSLAC will make grants available to libraries to purchase computer equipment that will enable them to expand services to adults seeking to improve literacy skills, including digital literacy, English language acquisition, basic education, family literacy, high school equivalency, workplace skills and training, and more.

Eligible libraries include accredited public, community college, and academic libraries that register for a free account with the Texas AEL Professional Development (PD) Portal, are able to identify a current or potential adult literacy provider partner, and Have an interest in expanding services to adults with literacy needs.

Libraries serving populations (public or student) of 25,000 and under are eligible for a grant up to $2,000 for reimbursement of costs for the purchase of equipment and supplies. Libraries serving populations of more than 25,000 are eligible for up to a $4,000 grant for reimbursement of eligible expenditures. The grant program is available on a first-come, first-served basis until available grant funds are depleted. We anticipate offering this grant to up to 50 libraries.

Libraries can submit this grant application to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission through February 24, 2017. The agency will review and notify applicants in writing of approval/non-approval by March 31, 2017. Upon approval, libraries may purchase the approved equipment, as described in the awarded application.
