AUSTIN –On February 9 the Texas State Library and Archives Commission will open the Talking Book Program Recording Studio for a rare public tour, followed by dramatic readings by Austin performance artists Sue Bilich, Dianna Dorman, Ev Lunning and Robert Rodriguez. Bilich, Dorman and Lunning are national stage, screen and television actors and voice artists. Rodriguez works for the State of Texas and is an active community volunteer. All volunteer their time and talents to record for the Talking Book Program.

The Talking Book Program (TBP) provides free library service to Texans of all ages who are unable to read standard print  material due to visual, physical, or reading disabilities,
whether permanent or temporary.

The event, part of TSLAC’s Event and Speaker Series, will be held Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, at the Lorenzo de Zavala State Archives and Library Building, 1201 Brazos St.,Austin. It is cosponsored by the Friends of Libraries & Archives of Texas.

A division of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, TBP traces its origins to 1918, and since 1931 has been part of the Library of Congress’s National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. TBP’s collection includes 80,000 book titles and 46 magazines available via download and U.S. mail as audio books, and digital cartridges and cassettes. Other formats include Braille and large print. Books and magazines are available in English and in Spanish. More than 100 volunteers contribute
