Event: The Governor's Hounds: The Texas State Police, 1870-1873 An Evening with Author and Historian Donaly E. Brice
Monday, December 7, 2015 • Austin, Texas • News Release
Join the Texas State Library and Archives Commission on Thursday, January 14th at 7:00 PM for an evening with author and historian Donaly E. Brice as he shares excerpts from his book, The Governor’s Hounds: The Texas State Police, 1870-1873. Drawing upon a wealth of previously untouched resources from the Texas State Archives, this book offers an engaging assessment of the much-reviled Texas State Police and its role in maintaining law and order in the years following the American Civil War. This program coincides with the current TSLAC lobby exhibit, Evolution of the Texas Rangers: 1836-1920, which invites visitors to explore the history of the men behind the silver star.
Copies of the book will be available for sale with proceeds going to the Friends of Libraries & Archives of Texas, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to enriching library and archival services for the benefit of Texans by promoting and supporting the programs of TSLAC. Light refreshments will be served following the presentation. To RSVP or for more information visit the event page or phone 512 -463-9807.
