Author and historian H.W. Brands speaks at TSLAC's Texas Independence Day program on Mar. 2 in the Lorenzo de Zavala State Archives and Library Building reference room.
University of Texas history professor and two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist H.W. Brands visited TSLAC’s Lorenzo de Zavala State Archives and Library Building on Texas Independence Day to provide a rousing discourse about the Lone Star state’s struggle for independence, and how its reverberations still can be felt in international uprisings today. Visitors celebrated the 175th anniversary of Texas’ brief nationhood with cake in the lobby after his speech. KUT-FM has posted a recording of Brands’ speech and his interview with reporter Nathan Bernier; you can hear both recordings on kut.org.
