Julie Burson and Dave Hardy
Our Employees of the Quarter for the Third Quarter of Fiscal Year 2003
Julie Burson - Julie Burson is the benefits coordinator in the Human Resources department, and an asset to our staff. She administers the agency’s benefits package and has the lead role in maintaining the agency’s personnel and payroll system. Julie has been with TSLAC for more than 25 years, and over that time she has amassed a depth of institutional knowledge, which she willingly shares with her coworkers. Said one peer, “Because of that sharing, I have grown as an employee as well as a person.” Julie is an asset to the HR staff and agency employees. In the words of a peer, “She ensures compliancy with state, federal and agency personnel laws and regulations, and also assists supervisors in the implementation of these rules and policies.” Julie has a keen attention to detail, a quality reflected in the high degree of accuracy of her work. Julie is ever-helpful to agency staff by answering questions on a variety of topics, including health insurance and workers compensation. Julie’s consistently outstanding performance and helpful attitude have earned her the respect and appreciation of the TSLAC staff. And as one of her peers stated, "She is the agency's Steady Eddie." Congratulations on this well-earned award.
Dave Hardy – Dave Hardy is the administrative support specialist for the Library Resource Sharing division. Dave performs a wide range of tasks that support both LRS programs and services as well as the LRS staff. From purchasing to records management, Dave has consistently exhibited outstanding performance. Since joining the LRS team in the spring of 2002, Dave has been continuously learning and assertively seeking out new information about the complexities of every aspect of the division’s various programs, which include the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service, the Publications Clearinghouse and the TexShare Databases and Card Program. With this knowledge, Dave is able to fully understand and meet the needs of the department. Dave has been instrumental in compiling statistics for the database and web services programs, and his peer stated, “He is always able to adapt to changing statistical tracking requests, and he does it with a good sense of humor.” Dave has also developed a procedure manual for this particular task. Dave’s understanding of the TexShare Card program has enabled him, as the contact person for the program, to effectively communicate with librarians from across the state and provide services that are used directly by patrons. As a part of his regular duties, Dave assists his division with making travel arrangements. He recently helped several staffers with the complex task of arranging their travel to Houston, TX for the Texas Library Association Annual Conference. When the division faced vacancies, Dave assumed extra telephone and e-mail responsibilities. Dave’s strong work ethic, exceptional organization and cheerful attitude are qualities that his peers respect and appreciate.
