Our Employees of the Quarter for the Fourth Quarter of Fiscal Year 2012

Tony Black - As an appraisal archivist in the Archives and Information Services Division, Tony Black assesses the historical value of state agency records, including those of the Adjutant General, the Comptroller of Public Accounts, and the Secretary of State. Recently, Tony was named Employee of the Quarter for the Fourth Quarter of FY2012 because an appraisal of his own work at TSLAC yielded high marks for knowledge, attitude, and affability.

“Tony Black’s knowledge of the historical and current workings of state government, the government of the Republic, and the Mexican and Spanish governments who ruled before Texas Independence is unsurpassed at our agency,” wrote a colleague in Tony’s nomination letter.

“The amazing depth and breadth of his knowledge of our agency’s records has provided the answer to many an elusive reference request,” wrote another colleague.

A third colleague added, “He is one of the nicest, most helpful individuals I have ever met… He is not the type of person to ever make you feel that your question is silly, or not important, or that you are bothering him with it. This consideration and warm approachability extends to everyone in the agency, including members of other divisions and patrons.”

Tony arrived at TSLAC in 1981 as a typist/receptionist in the Library Development Division. He moved on to the Secretary of State’s office and then returned to TSLAC in 1984 as a research assistant. He became a processing archivist in 1985.

TSLAC sincerely thanks Tony for his energetic service and proudly congratulates him for being named Employee of the Quarter for the Fourth Quarter of FY2012.

Becky Renfro - Becky Renfro is a cataloging assistant in the Archives and Information Services Division. Though she works in an area driven by quantity (she’s cataloged 4,000 books in a single year), Becky was named Employee of the Quarter for the Fourth Quarter of FY2012 because of the admirable quality of her performance.

“Becky is one of those employees you hope you are fortunate enough to have the opportunity to supervise,” wrote a colleague in Becky’s nomination letter. “In the past year she’s had to assume more responsibility, as many of us have, and she did it without complaint and with a positive attitude.”

Becky has worked on several substantial projects in Cataloging. During the renovation of our Lorenzo de Zavala Building, for instance, she cataloged 349 boxes containing 4,042 individual books that had never made it into the online catalog.

In addition to these types of projects, Becky prepares books for pickup by the bindery and processes them once they’re returned. She also manages the check-in of periodicals and serials.

“Becky is a hard worker, and a pleasure to work with,” her colleague continued. “She always has a kind word for her co-workers and loves those Longhorns!”

Becky has worked at TSLAC since 2005.

TSLAC sincerely thanks Becky for her energetic service and proudly congratulates her for being named Employee of the Quarter for the Fourth Quarter of FY2012.
