Sara Hayes and Rick Petrich

Our Employees of the Quarter for the First Quarter of Fiscal Year 2013

Sara Hayes - Sara works directly with the public and agency staff as a reference librarian in the Archives and Information Services Division. Praised for her cheerful demeanor, sharp intellect, and prodigious work ethic, Sara has been named Employee of the Quarter for the First Quarter of FY2013. Through emails, letters, phone calls and in-person visits, Sara answers reference and genealogy questions from an international customer base and assists visitors to our reading rooms.

“Sara’s intelligence, professionalism, humor and commitment to public service shine through in every interaction,” wrote a colleague in Sara’s nomination letter. “She is a wonderful person and an excellent librarian, and TSLAC is very lucky to have her.”

Sara has had a large hand in planning the popular Genealogy After Dark workshops, often giving in-depth presentations to full audiences about TSLAC’s genealogical resources. Recently, she managed a project that made oversized items on the shelves easier to find and retrieve.

“Even though Sara stays very busy, she is always happy to answer questions from other staff members about our resources,” wrote another colleague in Sara’s nomination letter. “Her approachability puts both our patrons and our newest staff members at ease.”

“As one of the archivists,” wrote a third colleague, “I have worked with many excellent librarians over the years, but I can’t think of any I enjoy speaking with more than Sara Hayes. She is a priceless part of our team.”

TSLAC sincerely thanks Sara for her energetic service and proudly congratulates her for being named Employee of the Quarter for the First Quarter of FY2013.

Rick Petrich - Rick is a delivery driver for the State and Local Records Management Division. An employee on the go, he brings a “can do” attitude, strong work ethic, and generous spirit to all that he does. For this and other reasons, Rick has been named Employee of the Quarter for the First Quarter of FY2013.

“Rick has been an amazing coworker to work beside,” wrote one colleague in Rick’s nomination letter. “He is efficient, diligent, humble, considerate and a positive person to be around. He has helped with microfilm projects, putting pallets together, moving boxes, and he’s quite the handy man!”

Rick’s work extends beyond driving. He has also become invaluable in converting non-system records into the system of the State Records Center. He’s gone out of his way to move furniture, disassembling cabinets and then rebuilding them in their new areas. He worked to setup a film accession processing area in his new workspace and came up with an efficient way to move boxes from the truck to the shelves.

“Delivery driver is not a good moniker for Rick Petrich,” wrote another colleague in his nomination letter. “He is a troubleshooter and a volunteer. He’s an ideal employee.”

Rick helps other divisions, too. He’s made a number of routine and special deliveries for the Archives and Information Services Division. “No matter the size of the load,” wrote a colleague in ARIS, “Rick is always hard working and good natured. It seems as if the move goes by much faster!”

TSLAC sincerely thanks Rick for his energetic service and proudly congratulates him for being named Employee of the Quarter for the First Quarter of FY2013.
