Texas Historical Records Advisory Board Invites Nominations for 2019 Archival Award of Excellence

The Texas Historical Records Advisory Board (THRAB) invites nominations for its Archival Award of Excellence, an honor granted to archival institutions and individuals in Texas who have made significant achievements in preserving and improving access to historical records in any format.

THRAB is accepting nominations through August 10, 2019 and will announce the recipients in October during Texas Archives Month.  The award is funded by a 2019 State Programming Board grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC).

Morgan Gieringer, Head, Special Collections at the University of North Texas and THRAB member Linda Barrett at the 2018 DFW Archives Bazaar. Barrett presented the Archival Award of Excellence to Gieringer for their NBC5/KXAS (WBAP) Television News Archive Project.

Recent recipients of the Archival Award of Excellence include the Special Collections at the University of North Texas for their NBC5/KXAS (WBAP) Television News Archive Project and the Austin History Center for efforts documenting the architectural history of Austin. In the individual category, Malinda Allison was recognized for her work with the Honey Grove Preservation League and Susan Dorsey with the General Land Office. THRAB initiated the award in 2016.

In 1976, Governor Dolph Briscoe established THRAB to fulfill two objectives. First, it enables the state to receive monies from the NHPRC in support of archival and records management programs. Second, it serves as a catalyst for improving archival and records storage conditions within the state.
