New Webinar: Records Retention 101 for Local Governments

stacks-of-paperDo you know how to read a retention schedule?  Do you know who in your organization does?  Maybe you know that your records need to be kept for a certain amount of time, but you don’t know how to go about finding out how long.  Or perhaps you are a Records Management Officer that knows of some employees that would benefit from some basic records management training.

This webinar was designed to assist non-records management personnel in understanding the basics of records retention: why we do it, how we do it, and what happens if we don’t do it.  Topics of discussion will include:

  • Records retention terms – Do you know what a record is?  What about a retention period?  We’ll give you all the definitions you’ll need to understand records management basics.
  • How retention rules work – We’ll talk about how we determine how long to keep records and we’ll show you how to interpret a TSLAC records retention schedule.
  • What happens when you call the State Library – We’re going to role play a few scenarios so you’ll know what to expect and what information to have when you call one of our analysts.
  • Audience Q&A – Bring all of your records management questions and we’ll answer them on air.
