State Agency Classes - February 25-26, 2015

State Records Retention Basics - Registration is closed for this course; class is full.

Learn why records management is important and required, what constitutes a record, how
to ensure you are in compliance and how that benefits your organization, ways to ensure you have an active and continuing program, tips on outsourcing and valuable resources for you and your records management program.

 

1:30pm-4:30pm

Managing Electronic Records

Learn how to apply records management principles to electronic records. This course looks
at the definition of electronic records (e-records), applicable laws and rules with corresponding best
practices and recommended standards and procedures. It also discusses e-mail, digital imaging, social media, shared drive management, and how to address the various challenges of these types of e-records and how to best manage them.

Emergency Preparedness

Learn how to identify, protect, and ensure access to your essential records, the records
necessary to continue operations in the event of an emergency. The course will also cover how to
prepare, respond to, and recover from a records emergency.

1:00pm-4:00pm

Improving Shared Drives and Filing Systems

This class provides an overview of files management, characteristics of good filing systems, common filing problems, and a six-step program to improving your paper filing system. The course offers strategies and best practices for managing shared drives and developing e-mail file plans.

Registration & Pricing

Each class is $15 per person and will be billed to your government after the training. We do not accept prepayment or payment by credit card.

Registration deadline is February 23, 2015.

Once form is submitted, you should receive an email confirming your registration within 1-3 business days. If you do not receive this confirmation email, please email slrminfo@tsl.texas.gov.

Cancellation Information

If you wish to cancel your registration, please submit in writing by February 24, 2015. Please include your name, government, training event, and contact information in the letter. In this interactive workshop, you’ll learn how to apply records management principles to electronic records through face-to-face instruction and hands-on activities.  This course explores four critical elements of electronic records management for Texas local government records managers: legal requirements, records retention, information retrieval, and long-term preservation.
