Oscar season is here and the nominees are in. As usual, some of the films nominated are based on books. Here is a list of some of those films and their corresponding books. Hurry up and read them so you can impress your friends on Oscar night!
- American Sniper received 6 nominations, including Best Picture and Actor in a Leading Role (Bradley Cooper.) It’s based on the book American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History by Chris Kyle and Scott McEwen (DB74166)
- Gone Girl got 1 nomination for Actress in a Leading Role (Rosamund Pike). It’s based on the best-seller Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn (BR19868, DB74888)
- Still Alice got 1 nomination for Actress in a Leading Role (Julianne Moore), and it’s based on the novel Still Alice by Lisa Genova (DB/RC 68429)
- Wild has received 2 nominations for Actress in a Leading Role (Reese Witherspoon) and Actress in a Supporting Role (Laura Dern), and is based on the memoir Wild: from lost to found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed (DB74646)
- Inherent Vice got 2 nominations, including one for Adapted Screenplay (Paul Thomas Anderson). It’s based on the book Inherent Vice by Thomas Pynchon (DB69580)
- Unbroken (directed by Angelina Jolie) received 3 nominations, including Cinematography, Sound Editing, and Sound Mixing, and is based on the book Unbroken: a World War II story of survival, resilience, and redemption by Laura Hillenbrand (DB72129) By the way, Unbroken is the next title in the TBP Book Club Series. The book club discussion for Unbroken will be on March 26, 2015 (Thursday), 7:00-8:00 p.m. Central.
