TexShare Database Fees FY2018

Public Libraries

At the May 12, 2017 meeting of the TexShare Advisory Board, the Board adopted a revised TexShare Databases Participation Fee formula based on a recommendation from the TexShare Database Cost Sharing Working Group.

The total amount to be collected is divided based on usage, with 75% of the total assigned to academic and medical libraries and 25% to public libraries. Under the revised formula, stability is emphasized. The fee is based on the amount paid in the previous year, with adjustments by type, size, or resource expenditures determined from year to year by the Cost Sharing Working Group. No library will pay more than 5% of its resource expenditures budget, and no library's fee will increase more than 10% from one year to another.

The $2.3 million that TexShare is required to collect for FY2018, which runs from September 1, 2017 to August 31, 2018, is the same amount that was collected in FY2017, but some fees for some libraries were reduced due to resource expenditures budgets. Overall, fees for academic and medical libraries will increase by an average of 1.7%; fees for public libraries will increase by an average of 0.25%.

FY18 Database Invoicing Schedule:
August 7: Formal quotes available on request (contact AR@tsl.texas.gov)
August 31: Invoices sent by email to directors and invoicing contacts
October 31: Participation fee payments due to TSLAC
October 31: Deadline for fee protests (contact texshare@tsl.texas.gov)
December: TexShare Advisory Board meeting (fee protests heard)
December 15: Access to TexShare Databases discontinued for accounts more than 45 days overdue
