Lending Policy for Baylor University

Obtaining a TexShare Card: Baylor University provides TexShare Cards only to current students and employees of the university. Eligible patrons may apply in person at the Circulation Desk located on the first floor of the Moody Library or online via the Libraries website at

Using a TexShare Card: Visitors with TexShare Cards from other libraries may apply for borrowing privileges at the Circulation Desk on the first floor of Moody Memorial Library. Patrons must present both their current TexShare card and a photo I.D. Patrons will be asked to fill out an information form. Because of staffing limitations, assistance may not be available to TexShare patrons in the late evenings, on weekends, or during holiday periods.

Hours of Operation: Sunday: 1 pm - 1 am (Midnight in summer) Mon-Thurs: 8 am - 1 am (Midnight in summer) Friday: 8 am - 10 pm Saturday: 9 am. - 10 p.m. Closed Labor Day, Thanksgiving (3 days), between Christmas Eve and New Years Day (varies), Martin Luther King Day, Easter weekend (4 days), Fourth of July. Interim sessions the library is open 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday and closed on weekends

Loan Policies: In most cases: 3 weeks.

Restrictions and Limitations: TexShare Card borrowing privileges are limited to monographic circulating collections housed in the Central Libraries. Items on course reserve, audio-visual materials, and special collections materials are ineligible for check out for use outside of the building. In-house use of many of these resources may be possible. Check with personnel at the service desks for details. Visitors are also ineligible for interlibrary loan (ILL) service support. Visitors may have in-house access to all electronic resources except those restricted by licensing agreements. Usual limitations on TexShare patrons: 5 items for 3 weeks with one renewal permitted. Loan privileges are suspended for patrons with overdue materials or unpaid fines.

Renewals: We will not renewal materials over the phone, via email, or via chat/social media channels. Materials must be brought to the library for renewal. Late fees must be paid before overdue materials can be renewed. Materials requested by other library patrons cannot be renewed.

Returns: The patron bears full responsibility for all materials borrowed from the Baylor Libraries including return of those items in a timely manner in good condition. The borrower is responsible for payment of any overdue fees that may accrue and will be charged replacement fines for materials lost or damaged while in their possession, including in transit via the mail. We encourage patrons to return books in person directly to the Circulation Desk on the first floor of Moody Library but several external book drop stations are located around the building for their convenience. Returns via TexPress/TransAmigos Express courier are also allowed if the library that issued their TexShare Card makes that option available to them. Recalls: The library will recall materials checked out to TexShare patrons when those materials are needed by Baylor students, faculty, or staff. The library will not recall library materials requested by other TexShare patrons. Recall notices are sent by e-mail when possible or by mail.

Non-Circulating Items: Newspapers, periodicals, reference books, microforms, audio-visual media items, materials shelved in any special collection.

Overdue Reminders: The Library sends overdue notices as a courtesy. Notices are sent by e-mail when possible or by mail. The library is not responsible for late or undelivered notices.

Fines and Fees: Our minimum fine is 25 cents per day per late item.

Lost Items: We consider an item lost after it has been overdue 3 weeks. Our minimum fine for lost/damaged materials is $120.00 per item. If an item is returned after being declared lost, the patron will receive a refund minus a billing fee of $20.00 per item.

Billing Information: Bills are due on receipt. Patrons may pay bills at the Circulation Desk or mail payment to the Baylor University Libraries. Patrons who fail to pay assessed fines will have their borrowing privileges revoked and we will notify their home libraries of the problem.
