TexShare - Library of Texas Working Group
10:00 AM until Noon on Dec. 13, 2006
LoT-WG chair Jeanette Mosey welcomed everyone at 10AM.
LoT program manager Kevin Marsh presented information about software upgrades currently in development. He encouraged all working group members to provide subscription lists, OpenURL link resolver addresses and virtual reference links for their own libraries. New features to support placing holds, verifying patrons and automatically placing requests directly into the OCLC ILL system were discussed. These features rely upon the NCIP and ISO-ILL standards.
Jeanette lead a discussion of multiple MARC downloads. Libraries that use LoT for copy cataloging are very interested in such a feature but the TexShare Advisory board has expressed some concerns that need to be addressed.
Diane Neal, TWU School of Library & Information Studies, completed usability testing of the LoT interface in Fall 2006. She shared a number of recommendations for changes with the Working Group. Some of these can be incorporated when the new software is installed.
Kevin Marsh informed the group about a new maintenance contract for the LoT software that provides a ticket-based system for minor software adjustments. Kevin also mentioned the possibility of migrating to a new back-end software platform from Index Data that merges search results from multiple targets into a single list and relevance-ranks them.
Nominations were solicited for vacant positions on the working group.
Kevin Marsh encouraged group members to be thinking about methods for communication and outreach to TexShare libraries and Texas library patrons. This would be done in preparation for work on a formal communications and outreach plan at a future meeting.
The group agreed to meet again in the spring of 2007.
