Navigator NRE/VDX Training Manuals

Ralph Horton at OCLC posted the following message to the ILL Navigator listserv, I have linked the manuals to their titles in his email:

Hi Everyone,
I have a few manuals that I think will help you with your day to day use of Navigator NRE.

 I have attached 3 manuals:

–          NRE-VDX Glossary v8
–          NRE-VDX WebAdmin Manual Managing Requests v8
–          NRE-VDX WebAdmin Manual Searching v8

As you know VDX and NRE are the same product. There are some minor differences in what VDX functionality is available in the NRE product, so you may find references to functionality you do not have.

There is one new feature that will be of interest to you in NRE/VDX 8.3 called “Cancel Now”. This will allow you to cancel a request and not have to wait for the lender to respond with a yes before the request moves on to the next position in the lending string. You will see this documented in the Managing Requests manual.

I am planning to do an upgrade after the holidays. I will work with Sara Hayes from the State Library to get the upgrade scheduled.

As always, if you have any questions or issues OCLC can help you with just use the “Report a Problem” link and someone from the support team will get back to you.

 Thanks,
Ralph

Let me know if you have any questions,

Sara

Navigator Training Sessions, November 18-19

OCLC will present two Navigator training sessions for Texas library staff in November.  Everyone is welcome to register and attend:

WorldCat Navigator Staff Training Part 1: Overview Presentation
When: Tuesday, November 18 2014
Time: 10am – 12:30pm CT
http://oc.lc/NavigatorPart1Nov18

The part 1 session is mainly a lecture and presentation. We will review the following topics:
–          The Navigator patron interface & request origination
–          The Navigator Staff interface (also known as the Navigator Request Engine or NRE)
–          Review the main processing actions used on requests in NRE (Ship, Receive, Return, and Check-In)
–          Discuss searching for requests in your Work Queue in NRE
–          Define the different categories that make up the Work Queue in NRE

WorldCat Navigator Staff Training Part 2: Exercise Session
When: Wednesday, November 19 2014
Time: 10am – 12:45pm CT
http://oc.lc/NavigatorPart2Nov19

The part 2 is a hands-on exercise session. For exercises in a remote environment, we have simulations of the NRE interface which participants will use to practice the main actions to take on requests, without running the risk of processing items inadvertently. With that in mind, participants will practice the following NRE actions via simulation exercise:
–          Shipping items as a Lender
–          Receiving items as a Borrower
–          Returning items as a Borrower
–          Checking in items as a Lender
–          Searching for requests in your Work Queue in NRE

These sessions will be recorded and made available to view at a later date.

I hope this helps.  Please let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks,

Sara
