Basic and Advanced Search Strategies and *New Features in EBSCOhost

EBSCOhost is always changing! This session is designed for those who want to get the most out of the new features when searching EBSCOhost. We’ll explore some basic and advanced search strategies, using guided style search boxes and field codes and learn how to use limiters for detailed searching. We’ll access publications and create journal and search alerts. Users will learn how personal folders can benefit both staff and patrons/students. Finally, we’ll review EBSCO’s Support Site for training and marketing resources and tools to promote these valuable resources.

Searching Business Source Complete using the *New* Business Searching Interface

EBSCO’s Business Searching Interface provides business researchers with the highly-refined tools they need to conduct sophisticated searches within business content. This 1-hour session is intended for librarians and others who would like to learn more about searching Business Source Complete using the Business Searching Interface. The session will cover searching for journal articles, identifying company information, viewing company landing pages, searching for specific publications and documents like SWOT analysis, using business-specific limiters, and setting up alerts.

EBSCOhost eBooks and New Features of the EBSCOhost Collection Manager (ECM) Ordering Software

This session will cover the basics of using the ECM ordering tool (which will be upgraded in December 2012) and your eBook collection. In ECM we will create a book list, search for books to purchase, and demo other key features of the software. In EBSCOhost we will cover searching, checking out, downloading and other options concerning your eBook collection.

Health Resources using EBSCOhost

This session will include a thorough overview of the content available through the medical resources Health Source and MEDLINE. We will cover what is included in each database and how to search Medical Subject Headings (MeSH). During this session, the key features covered include accessing Evidence-Based Reports as well as searching a variety of health topics.

Master your EBSCOhost Environment using the Administrative Module

This session is intended for library administrators and others who would like to learn more about the customization options within your EBSCOhost resources. EBSCOadmin, is the administrative tool to manage customization, mobile access, authentication, title lists and local collections of EBSCOhost resources. During this session, we will provide a detailed overview of the key features and functionality of EBSCOadmin. Topics include: customizing the user interface, setting up authentication, integration of outside tools (libguides), creating customized search boxes, and running usage reports.

Newspaper Resources using EBSCOhost

In this session we’ll demonstrate just how easy searching EBSCO resources can be using Newspaper Source™. This great resource provides cover-to-cover full text for more than 40 national (U.S.) and international newspapers, including Christian Science Monitor, USA Today, The Washington Post, The Washington Times, The Times (London), Toronto Star, etc. Finally, attendees will tour the EBSCO Support site, which provides additional training tools as well as materials to help promote these valuable online resources provided through TexShare.

Multi-lingual Options Within EBSCOhost (30 minute session)

Creating a multi-lingual online environment within EBSCOhost is the focus of this session. We will create searches to find non-English language materials within a few different databases. We will also discuss how to offer Interface language changes and turn on the language translation tool. The support site will also be searched for non-English language help documents.
