Science Databases

ProQuest’s Science and Technology databases provide comprehensive coverage of specialist scientific, engineering and technical disciplines. Organized by specialist editors and featuring controlled vocabulary and specialized thesauri, these databases feature worldwide coverage of the leading academic journals as well as grey literature such as conference papers, technical specifications and patents. Featuring trade and industry publications as well as academic titles, these enhance and supplement libraries’ existing holdings.

The Science and Technology collection includes the Natural Sciences and Technology collections, providing broad article indexing of 7300 journal titles (5400 are current) and access to 5400 full text journal titles (4000 are current). There is some overlap among the discipline collections, which are priced accordingly. Each of these two discipline collections are broken down into multiple subject collections. Periodicals Archive Online Foundations
is a major archive that makes the backfiles of scholarly periodicals in the humanities and social sciences available electronically. PAO foundations contains the full backfiles of over 300 journals, digitized from volume 1, issue 1.

Women’s Wear Daily Archive allows users to explore trends and influences on the fashion and beauty industry through the years. It contains the full run of past print issues back to 1910 (updated biannually). Every page of every issue, including all advertisements and images, is presented in page-image format in high resolution full color with searchable text.

Art and Architecture Archive
is a collection of many of the foremost art and architecture magazines of the 20th-century supporting scholarship across the spectrum of disciplines in the arts, from fine and applied arts through to interior design, industrial design, and landscape gardening.

History Vault Modules

Southern Life and African American History Plantations 1775-1915 is drawn from major repositories throughout the South, and consists of two major series: Records of Ante-Bellum Southern Plantations from the Revolution through the Civil War and Records of Southern Plantations from Emancipation to the Great Migration. Immensely valuable for studies of Black slavery, the primary documents in the ante-bellum collections illuminate nearly every aspect of plantation life.

Vietnam War and American Foreign Policy 1960-1975 Covers U.S. involvement from the early days of the Kennedy administration, through the escalation of the war during the Johnson administration, to the final resolution of the war at the Paris Peace Talks and the evacuation of U.S. troops from the perspective of State Department officials, Associated Press reporters, and members of the U.S. Armed forces.

Women’s Studies Manuscript Collections from the Schlesinger Library
Voting Rights, National Politics, and Reproductive Rights – tells the story of the fight for voting rights for women at the national, regional, and local levels, includes records on women involved in national politics, and the family planning oral history project and records of Mary Ware Dennett and the Voluntary Parenthood League

Immigration Records of the INS 1880-1930 files cover Asian immigration, especially Japanese and Chinese migration, to California, Hawaii, and other states; Mexican immigration to the U.S. from 1906-1930, and European immigration. There are also extensive files on the INS’s regulation of prostitution and white slavery and on suppression of radical aliens.

Statistical Abstracts
Statistical Abstracts of the US is an annual one-volume comprehensive summary of statistics on the social, political, and economic organization of the United States.

Statistical Abstracts of the World building on the positive response to ProQuest Statistical Abstract of the United States, this new product aggregates the statistical abstracts of approximately 40 countries and makes the content available through a single-search interface.

Prices for these ProQuest databases are based on FTE student enrollment. In order to achieve these discounts SCELC must collectively spend $25,000 in response to this offer.

All Science and Technology Collections are available at a 75% average discount.

The featured primary source and statistical databases are 10-25% off.

In addition to the SCELC discounts of described below for each individual item, there is a multiple item discount – 5% for 2 items, 10% for 3 items, or 15% for 4 or more items.

Primary Source and Specialty Databases
Because the pricing structure for each of these databases includes relatively variable fine grained FTE tiers rather than per fte pricing, we’re unable to provide exact pricing for these databases. Instead, we’ve provided a general pricing overview. Please note that most SCELC institutions will pay the minimum price since the lowest FTE band usually covers institutions up to 3000 FTE.
