Austin, TX – The Office of the Governor has announced the appointment of Commissioners Monte L. Monroe, PhD, and Norma C. “Leslie” Recine to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC), effective Monday, March 30.
Both have been appointed to full terms. The Texas State Library and Archives Commission is the governing board of the agency with which it shares a name. The Commission ensures that the agency effectively and conscientiously pursues its mission to provide citizens access to the information they need to lead informed, productive and fulfilled lives. Commissioners serve staggered six-year terms.
“I am delighted with the appointment of Monte Monroe and Leslie Recine to the Commission,” said TSLAC Chair Dr. Martha Wong. “Their extensive experience in history, education and preservation is invaluable, and we are grateful for their service to the people of Texas.”
Monte L. Monroe, Ph.D. of Lubbock is retired. He was previously the archivist of the Southwest Collection and on faculty at Texas Tech University (TTU). Monroe served as the Texas State Historian and on the Texas Historical Records Advisory Board, and is currently on the Texas America250 Commission Advisory Board. Monroe received a Bachelor of Arts in Literature and History from Stephen F. Austin State University and a Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy in History from TTU.
Leslie Recine of Pantego is a self-employed consultant. She is a member of the Arlington Woman’s Club, Daughters of the Republic of Texas and the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. Recine received a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from The University of Texas at Arlington.
Monroe and Recine’s terms are set to expire in September 2031. They replace outgoing Commissioners Bradley S. “Brad” Tegeler and David C. Garza. Thank you to our outgoing Commissioners for their years of service to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission and the people of Texas.
