Come out to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) Saturday, October 10, from 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon to celebrate Texas Archives Month with a Transcription Party! Help make history by transcribing handwritten documents and publishing them online in their new form. Interested in Texas in the 1800s? Is reading cursive your superpower? You might enjoy this party!

Explore the TSLAC section of the transcription project website FromThePage (fromthepage.com/tslac) to check out the collections currently available, like the outgoing correspondence of Texas governors and the escape record book from the Department of Criminal Justice.

TSLAC reference staff will provide guidance on how to get started. Volunteers may participate using TSLAC computers or their own devices. To best transcribe the documents, this project requires familiarity with cursive writing and the ability to type.

Volunteers may work on TSLAC projects online at any time, but we would love to see you in person for the party!

The State Library and Archives Reading Room will also be open 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. for regular Second Saturday research hours, and the Texas America250 exhibit will be on view in the lobby. Contact ref@tsl.texas.gov or 512-463-5455.

The Lorenzo de Zavala State Archives and Library Building is located in the Capitol Complex, 1201 Brazos St. in Austin. Parking is available at the Capitol Visitors Parking Garage across the street.
