Description:
This atlas consists of 175 plates, mostly maps, showing rivers, lakes, terrain, states, Union and Confederate geographical Divisions and Departments, campaigns, battles, skirmishes. railroads, place names, plans of forts and defended areas, and drawings of defensive equipment, uniforms, badges, flags, and medical transportation. Also included are views of forts and defended areas. Most items contain a reference to related textual material.
For conservation reasons, this atlas was unbound many years ago, but still maintained in the original atlas order. The atlas is arranged by sections--each containing a cover sheet followed by five plates. The plates are filed consecutively, and map numbers are assigned to individual maps or the entire plate. The title page, table of contents, and index to the maps are filed under this map number (map 3209). The following plates are missing: plates LI-LV, LXXXI, XCII-XCV, and the cover sheet of section 22. Most of the maps used in producing this atlas can be found in the records of the Adjutant General's Office, Department of War, National Archives, RG 94.
A published reproduction of this atlas (slightly reduced from original size) can be found in the Archive's Texana book collection.
